Academic Enrichment

Hillside PTA's Academic Enrichment program provides extra learning opportunities that supplement the Fulton County Schools curriculum. Our Academic Enrichment team plans and implements Artist Day, Science Day, Family Math Nights, and Reflections. 

Artist Day    

Artist Day is a full day of immersion in the arts for every student at Hillside. Classes rotate from artist to artist learning about different mediums through a variety of interactive and presentation style classes. Students also participate in several art projects, at least one inspired by a famous artist. The day ends with an assembly. Past assemblies have included the Georgia Ensemble Theater, Puppet Shows, Improv Comedy, Djoli Kelen African dance and drums, and the Braves Organist.

Artist Day is generally in February. Information will be communicated through the newsletter about volunteering. If you would like to be an Artist in Residence please email info@hillside-pta.com. 

Science Day

Science Day is an entire day of Science for all students. Each Homeroom teacher gets a Science experiment and leads the classes in their grade through it in rotations. 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders also get to do Barbie Bungee, Water Bottle Rockets, and the Egg Drop (with the help of the Roswell Fire Department) respectively. The day ends with a Science themed assembly. Every Husky participates in at least 5 experiments throughout the day. Science Day needs A LOT of volunteers. More information will be sent out in the newsletter closer to the event.

Family Math Nights

Family Math Nights happen twice a year, in the first semester for 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades at The Home Depot and in the second semester for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grades at Publix. Family Math Night is a chance for students to experience math in the real world! Each Husky gets a worksheet with math problems that are solved in the store. Students who complete their sheet are entered into a drawing for a prize. 

Reflections

Reflections is a National PTA art contest where students create art in an approved category using the year's theme. More information can be found here.
